Role-play plays an important part in the development of a child. It builds confidence, makes them more creative, develops communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Along with being a fun activity, it also allows children to get into character and act out real life roles or fictional performances.
To understand the concept the greater than, less than and equal to and use the signs accordingly children of KG-II participated in a role play. It was based on the story, “Hungry crocodile”, which was about a hungry crocodile who lives in the land of numbers. He was very greedy and whenever he was hungry, he would search for numbers and eat them, but he was very particular to eat the bigger or greater number out of the two numbers that he found. He would keep both the numbers and find out the greater number and eat it up.
To depict this story children acted as crocodile and the numbers of the Number Land. This activity helped them to became clear about the use of <, >, = signs. They enjoyed the activity and participated wholeheartedly. This activity enhanced their logical, fine motor and kinesthetic skills.
