IIM CASE STUDY

Subject and Predicate

‘Your grammar is a reflection of your image.’ – Jeffrey Gitomer

As children learn about English grammar, they learn about the basic building blocks of the language.  Learning about nouns, verbs and how to form sentences continue with them throughout their lives.

The lesson started with briefing the students of Class II on what is Subject and Predicate. They learnt that in order to have a complete sentence, each sentence must have a subject and a verb. These two parts of a sentence are the naming part and the telling part. The naming part names who the sentence is about and can name two or more people or things. The telling part tells what someone or something does and can tell two or more things. The telling part tells what naming part did.

After learning about the parts of Speech, an activity was conducted where the teacher wrote a word map on the board and asked the students to write down the words on their papers. After which the students were asked to write their own sentences with their own telling parts to complete the sentence and make it whole. Many imaginative answers were written down and then shared with the class. It was a joy to see many creative answers from the students.
