National Festivals – Gandhi Jayanti

“In a gentle way you can shake the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated in India to mark the occasion of the birth of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the “Father of the Nation” on 2nd October. This day is also celebrated as the “International Day of Non-Violence”. He taught us the motto of “Satyameva Jayate” which means that the truth always prevails.

Children learn more when they are actively involved in the teaching learning process. During the EVS class, the students of Class II were taught about National Festivals and Gandhi Jayanti was thoroughly discussed in class. Children were told about Gandhiji’s contributions towards the Indian freedom struggle, through truth and non-violence. They actively got involved in puppet making of three monkeys giving the message of: “Speak no evil”, “See no evil” and “Hear no evil”

It was indeed an enlightening session for the students as they got to learn about the famous Indian Freedom struggle and one of the key leaders who helped India become free from the British Raj. Historical stories and facts like these create a sense of awareness and gratefulness in the child for all that our great country has been through. It was a very interactive class which displays their interest and motivation to learn.
