Mystical Phoneme: A Playful Leap into Early Literacy

“Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning.” – Fred Rogers

On December 13, 2024, the Nursery learners at SAI Angan transformed their day into an exciting journey of discovery with Mystical Phoneme, an activity that blended play with purposeful learning. The young SAIoneers displayed enthusiasm as they energetically ran, leaped over obstacles, and engaged in a fun challenge that strengthened their literacy foundation.

The activity invited students to identify the initial sounds of images, circle the corresponding letters, and deliver their answers to the final point. This dynamic and interactive exercise filled the room with joy and laughter, showcasing the students’ agility and eagerness to learn.

Through this hands-on approach, the learners not only developed phonemic awareness and fine motor skills but also cultivated problem-solving abilities and 21st-century competencies. The cheerful atmosphere underscored the power of play in making early literacy a delightful experience.

Learning Takeaways:

  1. Phonemic Awareness: Strengthened the ability to recognize and use letter sounds.
  2. Fine Motor Skills: Improved hand-eye coordination through physical tasks.
  3. Active Learning: Demonstrated the importance of engaging, movement-based activities in education.
  4. 21st-Century Skills: Encouraged problem-solving, agility, and teamwork.
