“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” ― Anatole France.
Debating provides practice in developing sound and logical arguments. It also enhances the critical thinking skills, decision making ability, and the presence of mind among children. The Classes I, II and III members of the Ignited Minds Club debated on the topic ‘Are pets helpful or harmful to kids?’, during their weekly club classes on Saturday, August 8, 2020.
People overwhelmingly believe that having pets is good for children. According to some studies, pets, especially dogs and cats help children build their immune system. They also spread love, companionship and happiness in the family.
The members were extremely excited to share their thoughts while debating. Some children spoke for the topic and expressed their views that keeping pets creates a relationship of friendship. It teaches us care, responsibility, patience and loyalty. Some children spoke against the topic and said that pets are harmful as many can develop allergies and rashes from them. They opined that as pets need a lot of attention, someone always needs to be with them.
The debate ended with the statement that before bringing home a pet we need to be extremely careful about factors like home environment, size, temperament and our lifestyle. Students were exceedingly outstanding and honest in presenting their thoughts and it was a pleasure for everyone to listen to them. The debate was thoroughly engaging and inspiring.
