“Mathematics is an independent world created out of pure intelligence.” – William Woods Worth
Mathematics can be full of fun and wonder. As John William Navin Sullivan said, ‘The significance of mathematics resides precisely in the fact that it is an art; by informing us of the nature of our own minds, it informs us of much that depends on our minds’.
The Class II and III members of the Excelomatics club had an activity on 3D shapes during their club classes on Saturday, August 29, 2020. They learnt making different shapes like cube, cuboids and triangles using paper.
A 3D shape is defined as a solid figure or an object or shape that has three dimensions like length, width and height. Unlike 2D shapes, 3D shapes have thickness or depth. Children had loads of fun making the shapes, simultaneously getting an understanding on the concept of different shapes.
Learning shapes help children to identify as well as organize visual information. It enables them to get an understanding of signs and symbols. Such activities help members learn skills in others areas which include math, science, social science etc.
