“Colours are the smiles of nature.” – Leigh Hunt
The ability to identify colours is considered as a milestone in a child’s cognitive process and is often an important part of early screening for development and educational admittance. Recognizing the colours and identifying the colour name is an important part of a child’s development.
Blue and yellow are the unanimous “favourite colours”. So, the same colours were introduced to the Nursery students along with the significance and importance associated with the colours. Related pictures and objects were shown to the little ones to help them recognize the colours easily.
This was followed by an activity in which the students were asked to colour one palm in blue and the other in yellow. They were then asked to rub both the palms. On rubbing, the students saw the colours getting mixed and to their surprise they found an altogether different colour. The new colour was green. Students immensely enjoyed the activity. This activity helped them in enhancing their fine motor skill, naturalistic skill and eye hand co-ordination.
