“Children are not things to be molded, but are people to be unfolded.” – Jess Lair
Circle time holds a special place in the hearts of educators and young learners alike. It’s a cherished ritual where children come together in a circle, often on a colourful rug or tiny chairs, guided by an educator through a variety of enriching activities. These activities may range from singing songs and listening to stories to playing games and exploring topics that pique the children’s interests and support their growth.
Recently, our nursery learners experienced the joy of kicking off their day with a delightful morning song during circle time. This was followed by engaging activities such as a weather update, emotional discussions, and more. Through these interactive sessions, children not only enhance their social and communication skills but also develop a deeper understanding of their emotions and the world around them.
Learning Outcomes:
* Social Skills: Circle time encourages children to interact with their peers in a structured yet relaxed environment, promoting social skills like sharing, taking turns, and active listening.
* Emotional Development: Activities such as emotional discussions during circle time help children recognize and express their feelings, fostering emotional intelligence and empathy.
* Communication: Singing songs, storytelling, and participating in discussions improve children’s verbal communication skills, vocabulary, and confidence in expressing themselves.
* Critical Thinking: Exploring topics aligned with children’s interests encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills as they engage in discussions and activities.
* Self-awareness: Circle time activities promote self-awareness by encouraging children to reflect on their emotions, thoughts, and experiences, leading to a better understanding of themselves and others.
In essence, circle time is more than just a routine; it’s a magical moment where young minds blossom, connections deepen, and learning becomes a joyful adventure.
