“In every festival lies a lesson of sharing, harmony, and gratitude.” – Anonymous
Makar Sankranti, one of India’s most vibrant harvest festivals, was celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm at SAI Angan. Observed in January, along with festivals like Lohri and Pongal, Makar Sankranti marks new beginnings and teaches us to express gratitude to nature for the sunshine, food, and a bountiful harvest. From our youngest learners in Nursery to the confident SAIoneers of Class III, the celebrations were filled with learning, creativity, and cultural pride.
Nursery: Learning Through Joy and Play
Our Nursery children enjoyed a delightful introduction to Makar Sankranti through playful and sensory-rich experiences. They learned about the Sun, admired colourful kites, danced like flying kites, and discovered the sweetness of sharing through traditional til–jaggery treats. Their bright smiles and innocent excitement made the celebration truly heartwarming.
Kindergarten Early Learners: Crafting Traditions
The little SAIoneers joyfully participated in hands-on craft activities, decorating colourful earthen pots and creating paper sugarcane, important symbols of Makar Sankranti. Through these activities, children explored colours, shapes, and cultural traditions in a fun and meaningful way, reinforcing the joy of learning by doing.
Class I-III: Creativity Takes Flight
The talented SAIoneers of Class I spread their wings as they created and decorated their own kites. The activity filled the classrooms with excitement, laughter, and togetherness. It was a beautiful sight to see imagination take flight while children celebrated the festival with creativity and joy. Our SAIoneers of Class III celebrated Makar Sankranti with cultural pride and enthusiasm. The campus came alive with colourful decorations, kites, and cheerful faces as students learned about the significance of the harvest festival and the joy of new beginnings. Through engaging activities, they understood the values of gratitude, sharing, unity, and respect for nature.
A Celebration of Unity and Learning
Across all classes, the Makar Sankranti celebrations beautifully reflected a common message: though festivals may be celebrated in different ways, their essence remains the same: thankfulness, harmony, sharing, and happiness. The festivities were a perfect blend of culture, creativity, and meaningful learning, leaving our young learners with joyful memories and a deeper appreciation of their roots.
At SAI Angan, such celebrations strengthen cultural awareness while nurturing curiosity, creativity, and values, making learning a truly joyful experience.
