IIM CASE STUDY

The Invincible Solar System

“When you look at the stars and the galaxy, you feel that you are not just from any particular piece of land, but from the solar system.” – Kalpana Chawla

The natural celestial objects visible in the sky are stars, planets, comets, asteroids, natural satellites, the Moon and the Sun. They are considered as heavenly bodies. The students of Class I visualised the heavenly bodies and were introduced to the Solar System and its planets by questioning about their daily life experiences.

The students visualised Solar System and phases of Moon through a module which they related to their observation to the night sky. It was very informative. They had great fun while arranging the planets in order. They also drew and named the different phases of the Moon. Children understood how day and night occurs. This was an interesting and important topic in which children showed keen interest and enthusiasm.
