Spectrum Club – Egg and salt water experiment

“One must learn by doing the thing, for though you think you know it-you have no certainty, until you try.” – Sophocles

Learning through experiments help children to develop an improved and positive attitude towards learning. It enhances their skills and knowledge as well as provides opportunity for reflection. The Class I members of Spectrum Club learnt about density of water through as egg and salt experiment on Saturday, July 11, 2020. The children showed online how egg floats in salt water and sinks in fresh water. Each of them not only conducted the experiment but also explained it accurately that as salt water has more density as compared to fresh water, the egg float in salt water whereas it sinks down in fresh water. They also understood the reason behind ships not floating in sea water.

On Saturday, July 18, 2020 the members learnt about how balloon can be inflated with virtual carbon dioxide. At first the teacher demonstrated it with Eno and water and later on student tried it with vinegar and baking soda.

Learning by doing bridges gap between theory and practice, increases level of engagement, enables personalized learning and encourages students to think deeply and reflect. Experiential learning helps in preparing students for the real world.
