SAI International e-Summer Camp – The Jollification continues…….

The unique e-Summer Camp of SAI International which is being held from June 1 to 14, 2020, has stirred our spirits, enlightened and invigorated students and parents alike each step of the way. For the students of Class III, the journey is filled with loads of fun.
The dance steps of South Indian movies have its own flavour. The children had a fabulous time learning some of the steps during their session on Folk Dance on the 1st day of the camp. They also had a creative time, making rose flower with stem and leaves with the help of tissue paper. On day II participants learnt to make paper piano during the session on origami. Next was a session on Master Chef where participants made mouth-watering Mumbai masala sandwich and mango mastani drinks along with the resource person.
Next day, the kids ventured into clay modelling and those who did not have clay at home, tried it with flour dough. At the end they made a tree each which looked fantastic. Now was the time to shake it off during the Zumba session. On day IV, the participants made beautiful wall hangings from waste materials like old bangles and calendar, during the session on Best out of Waste. It ended with an energetic session on folk dance.
On the following day, students had a session on Science Magic where they learnt to make flying and walking butterfly, which produced different sounds on being pulled. The Resource Person explained the scientific principles behind some toys which created an interest for science in them. On day VI, the students had an energetic Zumba session and also learnt a new art of making beautiful things with tissue papers, glue and water and adorning it with colours. Children learnt to make a bunch of grapes which looked stunning.
After a day’s break, on Monday kids had a session on mask making, where they learnt to make Mickey Mouse masks and also made kitten masks for girls and tom cat masks for boys. It was indeed a great learning time filled with loads of fun. Following day, they heard a story about a pencil and eraser, which was narrated through sketches. At the end both characters realized how indispensable they are to each other. Next they heard the story of ginger breadman, which the resource person narrated through stick puppets made from ice-cream sticks and papers. Finally, they had a session on nail painting. Students are now geared to try the art on the nails of their mothers, aunts and sisters.
Paper collage activity fuels creativity and imagination as one gets the opportunity to create anything out of imagination with bits of papers. On Jun 10, students had a superb time creating a beautiful vase with colourful flowers complete with leaves and stems. Next they got to know about table etiquettes followed in India. Next day was all about Puppetry and the Resource person Ms. Rishu Suryan taught the kids to make puppets like stick puppets, bird puppets and walking puppets with the help of easily available materials. She also showcased some tricks of shadow puppets.
