Safety means keeping oneself and others free from harm or danger. It also means to avoid accidents by being careful with what you are doing. Students of Class I learnt about the importance of safety through some classroom activities.
It started with an activity where the teacher asked the students whether they have ever got hurt in the school and asked them the reason for that. She noted down the responses on the board and explained to them the reason for getting hurt. Students did understand that they got hurt as they were not following the safety rules. She then asked them to suggest how the situation could have been avoided.
Then each of the student was given a picture about the safe ways to follow. They were asked to colour that and write a sentence on it like what is safe to do and what is not. With this activities student learnt more rules to keep themselves careful at home, in school, on road, in the swimming pool etc.
Next the teacher helped the students to prepare and present a skit on Road Safety where a child is talking over phone while driving and another child is playing on the road and both had an accident. The skit was conducted to help the children understand that accidents occur due to carelessness and so one should be very careful. These activities were an exciting journey for the children to observe and learn about rules on being safe and implement in their daily life.
