IIM CASE STUDY

MATHS: 2D & 3D Shapes

Any shape having only two dimensions like length and breadth is called 2D or 2 Dimensional objects. They can be laid flat on a piece of paper or any mathematical plane. The first drawings of a child are examples of two-dimensional shape. It can be a square, triangle or circle. 3D shapes have 3 Dimensions, where apart from length and width, they have depth, like cubes, cones, prisms etc.

To help students of Class-I understand 2D and 3D shapes; they were first briefed on the properties of 2D and 3D objects. Next they were asked to see the various objects around them and categorise them into 2D and 3D objects. Students were able to sort and classify them accordingly. They were also able to describe the difference between them. This activity helped them to build their logical, inter and intra personal skills.
