An activity on Addition was conducted for Class-I students. In the activity, the teacher called two students to stand to her left and three students to stand to her right and asked to calculate the total number of students. The teacher introduced the symbol “+” on the flash card which was used for addition. She continued the activity by changing the number of students each time. To ensure that the children understood the concept, she conducted another activity in pair, where children used objects like rajma beans, ice cream sticks, number cards and other things around them and found their sum. Through such activities, students not only understood the concept of addition but they were able to apply the knowledge in their daily life situations. The students were very excited and enjoyed the whole classroom process.
