IIM CASE STUDY

Learning Positional Words

Positional words are specific prepositions that describe a noun’s position relative to another noun. Learning these words helps students to relate to where they are in the world around them and understand how objects relate to one another.

The children of KG-II learnt about different positional words like, In front of, Besides, In between and Behind through a small activity. They were asked to stand in a line and remember the name of their classmates standing in front, behind or beside them. Children were given small boards with the positional words written in them and asked to say where their position is in relation to the other child or children

The same activity was repeated with different objects. A bottle was placed on the table and an object was placed in different positions near the bottle. Children had to identify the position of the object in relation to the bottle. This helped the students in developing their linguistic, inter-intra personal skills along with gross motor skills.
