At SAI we believe in “putting knowledge into practice for complete learning”.
MATHEMATICS is not about numbers, equations, computations or algorithms: it is about UNDERSTANDING. We at SAI firmly believe in the words of Helen Keller who said “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much” . To reinforce this belief, an activity was conducted for Class 2 students, which focussed on teaching the concepts of 100s, 10s and 1s. The students were divided into six groups with four children in each group. Each student in the team was given grids of 100, 10 and 1. A 3-digit number was given to each group, let say 236, where the students pasted two 100’s grid, three 10’s grid and six 1’s grid on a colorful chart paper.
This was a new experience for the tiny tots who enjoyed working in groups. The interactive session was a new learning experience for the little students. It encouraged them to work in groups, think innovatively, dream and create new ways of problem solving. It also motivated them to realize the significance of physical teaching over theoretical which most often becomes monotonous and boring. Hence it can be rightly said that the only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics.
