“There is no friend as loyal as a book” – Ernest Hemingway
The International Storytelling Week is a long-time tradition at SAI International School that was initiated in 2012. Each year during this week students read stories, perform skits, participate in book themed activities including creative writing and learn about different children’s book authors from all over the world.
This year SAI Angan read three books from authors of the United Kingdom, USA and India. Over 1000 students enthusiastically participated in this event.
Students of Class I enjoyed reading the book ‘The Dot’ by Canadian Author Peter Reynolds, which looks at how students can be inspired by their teachers. Class II read a book called ‘Room on the Broom’ by UK Author Julia Donaldson. The book encouraged students to use their creative writing skills. Class III read a book called ‘The Juice Box Bully’ by American Author Bob Soren. This book takes a look at the ugly world of bullying and gave kids ideas about how to combat it in the classroom.
Activities ranged from arts and crafts to taking the ‘Promise’ Pledge standing up for others when you see them mistreated. Students also had the opportunity to use their creative writing skills and enhance their abilities in art and drawing. Students loved the books and are looking forward to next year’s International Storytelling Week.
