IIM CASE STUDY

Ignited Minds Club – Sports and Studies

“Sports are such a great teacher. I think of everything they’ve taught me: camaraderie, humility, how to resolve differences.” Kobe Bryant

Games and sports refer to activities done for amusement, recreation or fun. They are not only important for success in every walk of our life, but also are important for the growth and development of students in other aspects of life including academics.

Games help to propel students towards becoming more physically active. Sports help children develop the five “C’s” (competence, confidence, connections, character and caring) which are important for their overall development.  Sports and games can help improve attention, information processing and memory.

The topic of debate for the Ignited Club members of Classes I, II and III was ‘Are sports and games as important as studies?’

Many questions bother us and we all get stuck at some point of time, where we are compelled to choose between sports and studies and as we know mostly people prefer studies over sports. What to choose sports or studies, swimming or trekking, dancing or singing, playing football or playing guitar and many more? Are sports and games equally as important as studies? Is there no future without education?

The members of the Ignited Minds Club were extremely excited to share their hearts while debating. They made it clear that if there is a competition between sports and academics, it can be a healthy competition where the student acquires organizational and mental skills worthy of any professional manager, skills that will deliver lasting benefits throughout their lifetime. Playing sports can help your brain be better prepared to study so have fun on the field and enjoy the adventure of learning.

The debate ended with the statement that there should be a balance between studies as well as sports and games. It should be wisely planned to make space and time for your brain and to prioritize what is important, regardless of how far we go in sport, and a good education will prepare you for success throughout your life. Have fun while playing sports as it can help our brain to be better prepared for studies. So in essence; sports feed both your muscle memory and your brain!
