“Ghosts are just unfinished business that come back to haunt us. They don’t leave because we don’t let them go.” – Anonymous
Fear is a normal part of the development of children. If they learn to handle their fears effectively, nothing will stop them from going ahead in life. Sometimes, not getting assignments done on time instills fear in their minds. But is it more scary than the fear of ghosts? Though ghosts are a thing yet to be proved, and are only seen in movies and stories, they sometimes do have a negative impact on young minds.
The Classes I, II and III students of Ignited Minds club discussed on the topic, ‘What are you more scared of, ghosts or homework’, during their club classes held on Saturday, October 17, 2020.
The kids were very excited to put forward their points on such a relatable topic. Those who found ghosts scarier than home works said that ghosts are unexplained supernatural occurrences and the negative presence of these entities is felt all over the world. They have heard of family members sharing their experiences of seeing a ghost which is really spooky. Even if they haven’t seen a real ghost, the fictional characters are scary enough to give them nightmares with their eerie looks and noises. According to them, homework is just a part of their education that helps them grow and sharpen their concepts that they grasp during the classes. Infact, homework is not something to be scared of. Assignments make them smart and brave enough to face scary situations when they move forward in life. Homeworks are conceptual facts turned into questions that we study in the classroom. They do us good rather than harm. u
Another group of students argued that ghosts are nothing but a fragment of our imaginations. The actors in movies are supposed to entertain us and they are sometimes so good, that we end up getting scared. There is no proof of anyone seeing an actual ghost and people who claim to have seen them, do so when horror movies ignite their thought processes. They cannot hurt us physically and only exist in our heads so that we can celebrate festivals like Halloween! Moreover, if we are brave enough and have faith in God, nothing can harm us.
Instead, they felt that homeworks are scarier, since they make students feel stressed out. Doing assignments for long hours can lead to body pain and eyesight issues. When there are a lot of tasks to complete, it becomes too scary if not finished on time. Homework is a real-world thing which makes it scarier than ghosts.
There were also a different set of students who brave enough to imply that neither ghosts, nor homework scare them. They proved their argument with the fact that homework is part of getting to study the unknown and would prepare students for the world out there. As a result they might one day be able to wipe away the fear of ghosts with their knowledge and find out the truth about the supernatural.
It was a pleasure listening to their thoughts about their fears related to both the real and the supernatural world. The debate ended with the fact that fear comes from the unknown; be it ghosts or homework, if we are brave enough to face it, we shall surely win.
