Ignited Minds Club – Festivals of India

“The festivals appear to be part of a broader social phenomenon of the contemporary world.” – David Picard

Festival time is a fun time! It breaks the monotony of the daily grind. It’s a time to meet friends, neighbours and relatives. It’s a time for gifts, new clothes and decorations. It’s also a time to get in touch with our rich culture and heritage. It’s always fun to know about the various stories and rituals associated with each festival.

India is a country with a vast diversity in religions. All kinds of people live here. A lot of festivals are celebrated here. Now-a-days it has become advisable not to encourage any type of crowd celebrations so that we can avoid pollutions like air, water and sound. The members of Ignited Minds club of Classes I, ll and III debated on the topic “Celebrating festivals in crowd and loudspeakers or simply with family and friends”, during their club class on Saturday, November 7, 2020.

The active members of the club initiated their debate with points like meeting friends and roaming on the streets and visiting pandals are the parts of celebrating any festival. Some also expressed their interest in wearing new clothes, eating different cuisines and enjoying festive music. On the contrary, some groups of members argued about the pollution and global warming. They advised everyone to stay away from crowds and to help in reducing noise pollution and air pollution this Diwali, by not bursting crackers. Members of this club also found the solution to celebrate festivals by sharing some quality time with family and friends, making some rangoli in this Diwali and lighting earthen diyas which not only increase the warmth of the festival but will also help in controlling the environment pollution!

Celebrating festivals is part of our culture. It helps us develop a feeling of ‘togetherness’. So, taking  this into account the members of the club ended the debate by accepting the online meetings and celebrations. This kind of delightful argument among the members is really appreciable.
