Decades of academic research have proved that debate provides experiences that are conducive to life-changing, cognitive, and presentational skills. In addition to it, through debate, students acquire unique educational benefits as they learn and polish skills far beyond what can be learnt in any other setting. It teaches them the skills of researching, organizing, and presenting information in a compelling fashion.
To help the students develop their confidence, poise, and self-esteem, the Ignited Minds Club members of Class I debated for and against the topic “Should we use cell phones?”. But are cellphone’s usage a good idea? Do they serve as a valid learning tool or are they just another distraction? We took a look at the arguments for using cellphones, along with the number of students with phones and the number of apps available to them.
The Radio Orange Club members RJ Aishwariya introduced the topic with a great confidence. The members of the Ignited Minds Club were extremely outstanding and excellent in debating. Few spoke in the favour and few against the said topic. The debate was engaging and students of both the groups expressed their views and thoughts very confidently. It was a smart and an encouraging teamwork.
The activity helped in improving the student’s ability to form balanced, informed arguments and to use reasoning and evidence as wee as developing effective speech composition and delivery.
