“Listening means taking a second to consider what they’re saying, not just hearing their words.” – Anonymous
Listening is an important skill for language development. Learning to follow instructions after careful listening is a crucial milestone in any child’s learning process. It is the foundation of learning. Children need to learn to listen carefully, analyse, comprehend each word and then know how to implement in action.
It involves two important components, listening comprehension (auditory, receptive language) and understanding written directions (reading comprehension). These skills can be developed through interesting games and activities revolving around the lessons. Fun filled activities help in enhancing these skills in children.
An activity was conducted for the KG-I children, where certain diagrams were drawn with directions marked on the floor and they were given instruction on how to walk on it. The little ones had a great time doing the activity.
