Enhancing Grammatical Skills

The tenses are one of the fundamental building blocks of English language. When writing a coherent passage, it is critical that students use the right tense, are consistent in their use of tense and do not jump from one tense to another.

An activity was conducted for the students of Class III, where the children learnt about Simple Past Tense, which is best learnt through examples. It started with the teacher asking the students to recall from their memory on what all they did since morning. The teacher carefully noted down everything said by the students and put it in a sequence.

This was followed by an interesting activity with flash cards. Students were divided into groups and each group was asked to write about their experiences that had happened in the past. Each group came and presented their piece of writing and wrote the verbs in the board. These activities helped them to learn the rules of formulating the Simple Past Tense.
