“Festivals promote diversity, they bring neighbors into dialogue, they increase creativity, they offer opportunities for civic pride, they improve our general psychological well-being. In short, they make cities better places to live.” – David Binder
Celebrating festivals help the students to understand the importance of bonding and sharing joys of togetherness. These festivals are not only about good food, nice dresses, decoration and offering of prayer, these are also occasions through which the culture and tradition is passed on to the next generation.
At SAI Angan, every major festival is celebrated with equal gusto to enable the students to learn about various cultures and its history. Students of Nursery learnt about Diwali during one such activity. It started with narration of the story behind the celebration of one of the most enjoyable festivals of the country. It went to brief the little ones on how Diwali is celebrated and what all activities are done during the period of celebration.
To reinforce the learning, the entire class was decorated with diyas ornamented by students and colourful papers. Two of the students dressed up as Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha made the atmosphere all the more alluring.
During the celebration activity, students were told about the health hazards of bursting crackers. They also made creative Diwali cards and exchanged wishes. At the end sweets were exchanged which is the quintessential of the festival.
