IIM CASE STUDY

Comparing and Ordering Numbers.

“Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or algorithms. It is about understanding.” – William Paul Thurston.

Understanding concepts allow the student to organize issues or ideas in a broad way. To explain the concept of Comparing numbers the students of Class-I were introduced with the story of Hungry Crocodile which was followed by the activity using the mouth of the crocodile to compare numbers as symbols of greater than, less than or equal to. Thinking life beyond the classroom the SAIoneers were able to point out the proper order of things around them in ascending order and descending order. The activity of arranging leaves, playdough and paper balls in ascending order and drawing the picture of family members in descending order has assisted the tiny observers to arrange numbers accordingly. The ingenious schooling by the SAI Angan teachers is certainly estimable.
