Cleanliness is next to Godliness

“Cleanliness may be defined to be the emblem of purity of mind” – Joseph Addison

Personal hygiene refers to maintaining the cleanliness of one’s own body. It is important for both health and social reasons. It entails keeping your hands, head and body clean, so as to stop the spread of germs which may lead to illness. Our personal hygiene benefits our own health and impacts the lives of those around us too.

Through an activity, the Nursery students learnt about several components of personal hygiene like hand washing, oral hygiene, importance of trimming the nails, ear and hair hygiene. They were asked to play with sand and soil, followed by cleaning their dirty hands with soap and water. After that, they were asked to wipe their hands using towel.  This activity helped them to learn about the significance of washing hands.

In a second activity called “Brush the Germs”, the students were given a toothbrush each and asked to clean the germ from the teeth. They were demonstrated on the right way of cleaning their teeth and explained on how it benefits a person. This activity helped them to learn about the importance of brushing teeth.

The students were briefed on how to maintain the hygiene level using soap, nail cutter, shampoo, oil, etc. They also created their own hygiene kit using the same. Students thoroughly enjoyed the highly interactive lesson which helped them to enhance their naturalistic, visual and logical skills.
