Bird’s Nests

“Little by little, the bird makes its nest.” – French Proverb

A bird’s home is called its nest. It is the place where the winged creature lays eggs and tends the little ones with utmost love and care. To ensure the safety of the family, a bird takes all precaution to build the nest.

Students of Class III got an opportunity to build Bird’s Nest through during an activity. They were provided with materials like papers, colours, glue etc. Children also brought along materials like grass, big leaves, branches, twigs, wool thread as well as some small plastic birds.

The children were divided into six groups. The first group used the chart paper, coloured it brown and folded it as a tree trunk. Then they made a hole there to show how Woodpeckers make nest. The second group stitched the big leaves with a pencil and wool to build a Tailor bird’s nest. The third group folded a chart paper and pasted twigs on it in such a way that it looked like a Weaver bird’s- nest. The students of the fourth group built a Sparrow’s nest with straws and coconut fibres. The fifth group made a nest on open ground with a three-dimensional paper penguin sitting on its eggs which was built with cotton balls. The last group built Eyries with a three dimensional paper eagle sitting on its eggs near mountains.

After completion of their work, each group was given a chance to show their nest’s structure in front of the other groups and explain about it. After the activity got over they kept all the nests for display in the classroom.
