Spectrum Club

“The true method of knowledge is experiment.” – William Blake

The children of Spectrum club of Class II and III performed two experiments during their online session. In the first experiment they used a raw egg, vinegar and an empty glass. In this experiment they observed that when they soak an egg in vinegar, the eggshell started absorbing the acid and dissolved. Eggshells are made of calcium carbonate. The calcium carbonate will become carbon dioxide gas, which will go into the air. What is left is the soft tissue that is lined inside the eggshell. In the second experiment, children took a glass full of water and placed an egg into the glass then they observed that it sinks to the bottom. Next in another glass of water, they added salt and stirred until it was completely combined. Then they placed another egg into the salt water and observed that it floats. When enough salt is added to the water, the saltwater solution’s density becomes higher than the egg’s, so the egg will then float.

It was an insightful activity for the kids where they got to learn and observe the scientific experiment themselves. Children enjoyed a lot while doing these experiments as they were having fine while learning ensuring that it increases their levels of curiosity.
