The Ignited Minds club members of Classes I, II and III debated on the topic, ‘Television makes people lazy’ during their club classes held on Saturday, September 19, 2020. This is a debate which has been going on for years. Do advances in technology make us lazy and require less use of our brains?

Television is a source of entertainment as it helps in viewing different types of channels according to different tastes of people. In short, comedy channel for fun loving people, movie channels for movie lovers, audiophiles for the ones who love music and news channels for those who keep themselves update on the latest happenings around the world. Television somehow makes people lazy because it gradually becomes a habit and turns to addiction. Some people becomes so immersed that they make expressions like the TV actors.

Most of the children prefer seeing cartoons which are fun but some serials do not follow ethics and show violence. Cartoon serials compel the children to watch it again and again because of this, it makes them lazy and they do not do their work on time or they do not like to do any work while they are watching a movie or a cartoon.

Today’s students are super active. This was observed in the Ignited Minds Club. They were extremely excited to share their thoughts while debating. Some children spoke for the topic and expressed their views regarding the importance of television and some expressed their views on the negative impact of television.

The debate ended with the statement that though television is a source of entertainment but thereby, it is somewhere exploiting today’s generation by making them more violent as well as lazy sitting in one place for long time. Students were exceedingly outstanding and honest in presenting their thoughts and it was a pleasure for everyone to listen to them. Thus, the debate was thoroughly engaging and inspiring.
