The Numbers

“Numbers have life; they’re not just symbols on paper.” – Shakuntala Devi

Learning numbers is an essential component of early childhood education. Maths skills taught during the early years are designed to provide the foundation a child needs to succeed in elementary school and beyond. Number sense or the basic of learning numbers is the first vital maths skill a child must develop.

Children are naturally visual and can build relation between number and a represented item. It is often observed that children recite numbers, but don’t fully understand what the numbers represent.

An activity on recapitulation of numbers was conducted for the students of Play Group. In the activity, numbers were represented with items and pictures. This combined numbers activity and matching numbers game helped children to understand and compare numbers.

It was followed by a video presentation on numbers which reinforced their learning. The interesting activity enhanced the logical, visual, kinesthetic, inter and intra personal skills of the little angels.
