IIM CASE STUDY

A Visit to the Museum

Museums are places where children get an opportunity to explore and experience new things in an interesting environment. Students of Class II had their first trip of the session 2019-20 to the Regional Museum of Natural History (RMNC). Learning becomes more engrossing and sustained when students go out of the confines of their classroom. The excitement of students amplified as they were accompanied by the teachers of Churchdown Village of Infant School, UK from United Kingdom.

RMNC has a diversified variety of exhibits on plants, animals and geology of the eastern and north eastern India as well as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The galleries emphasize the conservation of nature and natural resources while depicting ecological interrelationship among plants and animals.

The students could get the concrete experience of plants, animals and geology. They were able to reflect and connect on their theoretical aspects of learning like conservation of nature and natural resources, ecological interrelationship among plants and animals etc. All the students were thrilled to see the skeletons, especially of baleen whale and the elephant. For some of them dolphin was a surprise.

After returning from the trip they got a worksheet which worked as a valuable supplement to accumulate and drag their observation in a written canvas. The trip not only brought them a classroom break but also expanded their general knowledge, cultural capital, empathy and critical thinking skills.
