Wheel is a circular object that revolves on an axle and is fixed below a vehicle or other object to enable it to move over the ground. It is one of the most important invention in human history. Without it things would have been different and difficult.
Before the invention of the wheel in 3500 B.C., humans were severely limited in the number and weight of things they need to carry while going on a journey or work. Wheels are used for transportation and carrying things. Land transport is the movement of people and goods from one place to another and wheels are the most important element of land transport. Car, bus, truck and train and even carts are some examples of transport which moves on wheel.
The children of KG II were introduced to the invention of wheels through some activities. They were given different objects with and without wheels like chair without wheels and with wheels, table without wheels and trolley with wheels and were asked to move the objects. They learned that objects with wheels move much faster and easily as compared to objects without wheels.
In another activity, the students were given pencil and play dough and were instructed to make wheels with axle. These activities enhanced their naturalistic, visual, linguistic, interpersonal, intrapersonal and fine motor skills.
