“A fruit salad is delicious precisely because each fruit maintains its own flavour.” – Sean Covey
Fruits are a source of many essential nutrients and Fruit Salad is a great way to enjoy the taste of several fruits while simultaneously gets the benefits of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants etc.
The children of Playgroup came to know about different types of fruits and their flavours through an activity of making fruit salad. It was great fun to watch the children sit in a circle and identify different colours of various fruits, for example-mangoes and bananas are yellow in colour, apples and cherries are red in colour etc.
They also came to know several things related to fruits like bananas and grapes grow in bunches, all the fruits are of different sizes or the seeds of each fruit are also different in shapes and sizes.
Children tried their hands to peel the skin of certain fruits on their own. They knew that banana skin needs to be peeled off but fruits like grapes can be eaten along with skin. Then they put the small pieces of apples, mangoes, bananas, pomegranates and grapes in the bowl with the help of teachers. After that they mixed the fruits with condensed milk and fresh cream to make a yummy fruit salad. Through this activity the little ones enhanced their naturalistic, visual, fine motor, inter and intra personal skills.
