Paragraph writing is a basic skill that children learn from a tender age. A skill that stays with them throughout their educational years and continues past into their daily lives. A paragraph is a group of sentences that centres around a single idea or meaning. Paragraph writing is important because they are the building blocks for writing longer essays, articles, and stories.
Students of Class-II learnt about Paragraph writing in a systematic manner. Before starting to write, the teachers explained them the structure of a paragraph by telling them that like every story has a beginning, middle and end, a good paragraph has also these parts.
The teachers explained step by step on how to write their own paragraph, including focusing on the very important “topic sentence”. Then the children were split into teams of six each and were asked to write their own paragraphs using simple but fun topics as an activity. The kids were enthusiastic and eagerly waiting for their chance to write a sentence that would add to their groups’ paragraph. They used their creativity and imagination to spin wonderful sentences that eventually constructed into a paragraph. The children learned a core skill and had a lot of fun along the way.
