Little Charioteers, Big Lessons: Ratha Yatra Through the Eyes of Young Learners

“Festivals are not just celebrations, but stories that shape the hearts of our children.”Anonymous

The vibrant spirit of Ratha Yatra came alive at SAI Angan as our little SAIoneers from Playgroup to KG II celebrated the festival with immense joy, curiosity, and wonder. The celebration was more than just a festive event; it was a beautiful blend of learning, tradition, and emotional growth for our young learners.

From the moment the celebration began, the atmosphere was filled with excitement. The children eagerly participated in engaging stories and interactive discussions that helped them understand the significance of Ratha Yatra, one of India’s most beloved festivals. Teachers brought the tales of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra to life through simple storytelling that sparked awe and admiration in the young minds.

One of the most heartwarming highlights of the day was watching the children pull a beautifully crafted model of a chariot. This activity was more than just play; it was a powerful moment that symbolised unity, togetherness, and cultural pride. The sight of our tiny charioteers working together with beaming smiles captured the true essence of the festival.

To further enrich the experience, children took part in festive craft activities. Using colourful paper, beads, and other materials, they created their mini chariots, crowns, and decorations. These hands-on tasks not only nurtured their creativity and imagination but also strengthened their fine motor skills, fostering development through joyful exploration.

Through this celebration, learning extended beyond academics. The experience became a meaningful journey into the values of empathy, teamwork, and respect. By engaging in shared traditions and collaborative activities, children learned the importance of working together, showing kindness, and honouring cultural heritage.

The Ratha Yatra celebration beautifully showcased how festivals can be used as a medium for experiential learning. It offered our young learners a chance to connect with Indian traditions while developing social and emotional skills in a fun and memorable way.

At SAI International, we believe that cultural experiences play a vital role in shaping well-rounded individuals. The Ratha Yatra celebration was a reflection of this belief, bringing our little ones closer to their roots while helping them grow as confident, caring, and culturally aware individuals.
