IIM CASE STUDY

Multiplication

“The world looks like a multiplication-table, or a mathematical equation, which, turn it how you will, balances itself.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Word problems are different because each one needs to be analysed and evaluated. For solving math problems, a student may need to approach the problem from a different angle.  Students of Class – III learnt about “Multiplication Word Problems” through several activities. While doing this activity, they learnt to read the problem, pull out the pertinent information, solve the math equation and then think about how the answer makes sense in the context of the problem. This activity helped the children to apply maths in the real world. They also learnt to think visually and proceed logically in order to find the solution. This kind of activity develops the Higher Order Thinking and Critical thinking skills of students.
