IIM CASE STUDY

2D and 3D shapes

“Geometry is the archetype of the beauty of the world.” – Johannes Kepler

The students of Class I learned about 2 D and 3 D shapes in innovative and interesting ways through various activities spread over two consecutive days. They learned that 2D shapes are flat shapes and 3D shapes are solid shapes. They learned about the properties of these shapes by observing various models through activities and videos. They were able to name and explain these shapes and also differentiate between them.

The students also saw modules on this topic. In the activity of 2D shapes students made houses, rocket, human figures etc using cut outs of different 2D shapes as square, rectangle, circle and triangle and in 3D they made 3D shapes by joining ice-cream sticks with play dough to make cube, cuboid, cone, sphere, cylinder and pyramid. The students understood the concept and could relate real objects at home and in nature with the different shapes. The activity enhanced the logical, linguistic and naturalistic skills of the students.
