“Food safety involves everybody in the food chain.” – Mike Johanns
A food chain is a linear network of links in a food web starting from producer to organisms and ending at apex predator species, detritivores, or decomposer species. It shows how each living thing gets food, and how nutrients and energy passes from one creature to another.
The students of Class III took part in a wonderful hands-on group activity on the topic, ‘Food Chain’. Each group was provided with chart paper and crayons. One member from each group was called to pick up a chit paper in which the name of one ecosystem name was written. So, each group got a different ecosystem and they made a food chain on that ecosystem.
This interesting activity made them think about the animals residing in that biome. As part of the activity, students got to draw the animals belonging to their respective ecosystems. They also drew a food chain, labelling it with and arrow marks in between each level of organism. The activity helped the students in understanding how energy passes from producer level to the highest consumer level.
